Diving in the Red Sea from Hurghada

| January 23, 2012 | 18 Comments

On our recent trip to Egypt we were lucky enough to spend a day diving and snorkelling in the crystal clear waters of the Red Sea while we were staying in Hurghada.

The day was actually quite cool with a strong breeze and the water was only a balmy 20 degrees. I managed to fit in two 60 minute dives on separate coral reefs with an incredible guide and an underwater cameraman following us the entire time.

There is nothing more enjoyable than sitting serenely on the bottom watching the reflections of the fish as they dart in and out of the coral reef structures. If you have two minutes then sit back, relax and enjoy this short clip from beneath the waves as I dive the Red Sea…

Cannot wait to go back here in May and hopefully will get Adela to join me this time for her first diving experience!

I learned to dive in Hurghada many years ago but haven’t dived there since. I really must make the effort to go there on a trip as there are some wonderful dive sites.

Hey Rob you definitely need to go back. Sure there were loads of dive boats out on the two reefs we visited but for some reason there were only about 6 people actually diving. Unreal having such beautiful coral to ourselves.

I love diving in the Red Sea, although the week we were there was the coldest week our dive master could remember and I froze! I want to go back and do The Brothers – would love to see a Thresher Shark.

We were really hoping to see a shark as well Laurel but missed out! Going back in May so hopefully will see some then :) Well Adela hopes not haha.

  4. That looks amazing. I’ve heard such good things about diving the Red Sea. I’m really looking forward to doing it one day.

  5. Wow, talk about crystal clear water. So cool.

  6. Wow, the water is amazingly clear. What kind of video camera did you use?

    • It wasn’t that warm unfortunately but it was the middle of winter! The diving company filmed us Mary but I am not sure of the camera sorry. It was just a simple video camera though with a waterproof housing.
